Description
Earlier in Tokyo, at Meiji Shrine, I'd seen a little boy in kimono and was told it was in celebration of Shichi-Go-San, or Seven-Five-Three, where boys and girls of these particular ages go to the shrine for blessings and good wishes for their futures. These ages are considered especially important. They get dressed in traditional kimono and receive bags of special candy to mark the event.
We were at Heian Shrine in Kyoto, and were to the area where we weren't allowed to take pictures, when this couple came out with their absolutely precious and beautiful daughter. Of course we all wanted a photograph and the priest was having a fit trying to keep it from happening...but the parents graciously led her down and let us take pictures of their little girl.
Poor thing, though, I think she wondered who all of us were and why we were taking her photo.
The pictures I took of her I think are, out of nearly 800 photos I took, the favorite ones I took on my entire trip.
